Deep Calleth Unto the Deep...

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. [Psalm 42:7]

"Deep calleth unto deep..."

The earth contains lots of treasures. All treasures that a man is seeking for are found in the earth. All that we see today on earth's surface that are blessings unto men actually came out of the earth:- the food we eat, the houses we live in, the water, the trees (from where we get furniture, paper...), the clay, wood, rocks, gold, silver, brass, petroleum products, gas, ..., just name it, everything comes from the earth either directly or indirectly.
God can be likened to this mass of earth in whom there are countless treasures to satisfy all the needs of men. Most of these treasures are not easy to come by, a man must engage himself on a diligent and tasking search for them before he can find them.

There are varying types, sizes and degrees of treasures. These treasures also vary in their worth or values. The desire of a man, the hunger and thirst in a man's heart for a specific type of treasure of high value, will determine how far the man needs to go, or how deep he needs to dig in order to get out the costly treasure he so desires. Those who desire the costly, valueless treasures must dig deeper than those who are satisfied with the common ones. The treasure that is available and RELEASED to a man is a direct proportion to what his desire is, and how far he is willing to dig, not minding the characteristic discouragements that may surround his quest.

How far am I willing to dig? It depends on what I am willing, and seeking to get.

A hen can scratch the surface of the earth, and quickly, within a few seconds, it has found what it's looking for - the ants and the leftovers - and the hen will be completely satisfied. Many Christians today are like hens, they only scratch the surface of God in their search for Divine things, and all they get is common things, useless things, ants and some leftovers, they never collect anything serious because they dwell on the surface, they are men of the periphery. Since their passion is not consuming, and they are not hungry for richer, deeper things, they are not willing to painstakingly dig deeper, therefore, they get only what is available on the surface - which is ants and leftovers.... Men today get the food they eat also from the earth, but in my little discovery, I found out that man does not have to dig too deep before he can get food out, even food is what can easily be found, because it is available at the surface.

FOOD is the smallest, basest thing that the earth produces. It is over-abundant and available for all, it is one of the common things available on the surface. A small child gets it, the rich gets it, the poor, young and old all get it, food is so common, it is available to one and all, even plants are not denied it. You don't have to dig too deep before food is available to you, the ravens, the animals, all living things have a fair share of the abundance of these edible provisions of the earth.

THIS IS FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Why then, as believers today do we seek God for the basest, smallest thing that earth can afford as if that were the greatest thing that is available in God? If God is like the mass of earth that contains lots of treasures, why do we spend the whole of life in seeking for what is readily available on the surface or at best, just a few centimetres below the earth? Christians of today are concentrating their desires on edible food to eat, healing from sicknesses which is the children's bread, (Matt 15:25-34) they fast and pray for money and riches, properties, clothing and shelter. and all these are just the commonest, surface treasures, they are the leftover food items available on the periphery of God, that I don't need to dig too deep before I can obtain.

Sometimes, I wonder in bewilderment the joy that so fills believers' hearts today and the huge space given to testimonies just because a meal was supplied, a job was secured, a house was built, worldly promotions came... and many such likes which are available a few centimetres from the earth's surface. The funny thing with this is that even unbelievers in their millions enjoy these provisions without stress or scrambling, far more than those clinging to God, and I ask myself, "is this all there is in God?", "if these are all the Divine riches that heaven claims to supply, then is the Believers' God more bankrupt than the heathen's god?".

Is there not a provision, a treasure that is deep in God, which is available for the believers, and separates the God seekers from the worldly people? Are there not some greater, higher and deeper treasures in God that are not ubiquitous on the surface, but are valueless and of great price, and reserved specially for those who are hungry for more of God? It is definitely not food, because food is available to one and all... Suffice me to say that contrary to popular opinion (even opinions of many believers, churches and ministries), Gain is NOT Godliness, Godliness is deeper than that, Godliness is not what can be obtained just a few centimetres away, NO, it's deeper than that.

In the strata of the earth, you find that digging deeper, there are more greater, higher treasures, buried beneath the earth, that it takes conscious efforts, time, energy, commitment and importunity to dig out. In addition, the deeper you go into the earth, the greater, higher, costlier the treasures that you find along the way. As you dig into the earth, you may first get water, then asphalt for cement, then silver, different minerals, then gold, then gas, then crude..., which means, the deeper you go into the earth, the richer, greater, costlier and more valueless the treasures you get. Therefore, the counsel of God to me today is to go deeper. Treasures are available, only they are not easily gotten, those who are not ready to dig into God cannot find deeper things, those who are satisfied with common things are excluded from divine riches.

You need to seek God, until you find Him. Only the hungry actually find God. Selah.

Now, does it mean that if I begin to seek for a deeper walk with God at the expense of these food that the Gentiles are seeking, will I not go a-begging? Oh No... As you begin to dig deeper into God, there is no way you can dig any far without FIRST getting to the few centimetres where the food resides, in fact, you will get food, and you will get even better food of more value as you dig deeper. All these food things are just additions unto you, because they are actually NOT your destination as you dig into God, but you discover that they are readily available unto you along the way, while you are digging deeper into God. The food is not what you are seeking, but while seeking and digging for deeper things, you just discover that food is ordinarily available as wonderful additions. But for those who are excited just about food, immediately food comes, they have no strength and grace anymore to go deeper, they get satisfied with ephemerals, and pitiably, that is all they will ever get, they will remain poor forever.

True riches is not about food, it's not about good name, it's not about money, wealth. societal influence, promotion, status or possession, in fact, such 'surface' kind of wealth is actually 'poverty' of a kind, it will blindfold a believer from seeing the true riches deep into God, which only those who are longing for God alone can obtain.

What seekest thou today? Am I satisfied with leftovers or ants - which are worth no prize in the market? Am I satisfied with food which the Gentiles seek? Or do I want something deeper?, am I hungry for greater treasures?, do I want the Presence of God, Divine revelations, the love of God, Sweet fellowship with the Holy Spirit, a deeper walk with God, the secrets of God? As I dig deeper into God, God will begin to give unto me the deep things spelt out in Hebrews 6:4-5 which those who are not ready to dig can never obtain:

"... those who (are) ... ENLIGHTENED, and have TASTED OF THE HEAVENLY GIFT, and were made PARTAKERS OF THE HOLY GHOST, And have tasted THE GOOD WORD OF GOD, and the POWERS OF THE WORLD TO COME [Hebrews 6:4-5]

How rich am I?, what are the contents, the constituents of what I call riches?, are my riches full of the perishables, which cannot last beyond this world?, does it not appear to me how poor I am when all I boast of are the perishables that will soon fade away?

Only the Deep actually calls unto the Deep... Selah.
