And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [2Cor.12:7-9]
“…unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” [1Timothy 1:2]
...grace, mercy, and peace...
What we see in 1Timothy 1:2 was the salutation and greeting of the great apostle, Paul, unto his well beloved son in the Lord. His focus and passion was on how more of Gods grace and mercy would be imputed unto Timothy his son in the Lord. Something inside Paul, was most convinced beyond doubts that what Timothy his son needed most, and would sustain him through thick and thin in his life and ministry, was the sufficiency of Gods grace and mercy that never runs dry. Paul knew that the grace of God would never fail by the slightest breadth.
In our days, if we were to release salutations and blessings upon those whom we were to pray for, our greetings will be more focused on the outpouring of Gods provision, comfort and security in terms of the physical unto those whom we love and call our children in the Lord. We would pray for the release of financial outbursts and the termination of all manner of embarrassments that poverty brings upon our sons and daughters in the Lord, for whom we crave their success in lifes endeavours. But in the heart of Paul, the greatness of God that only the grace of God releases unto a man, superseded all those catalogues of physical, tangible earthly blessings combined.
There was something very clear in the hearts of those Christian brothers in the early days that knew strongly that the grace of God was completely sufficient unto any man If God granted you His grace (even if He didnt give you money – which to you was the easy solution to your challenges), you were sure He will take away every embarrassing thing from you by the wonder working power of that grace. His grace was sufficient much more than gold.
WORKINGS OF GRACE...
Grace is Gods unmerited favour given to those He loves. Grace granted you strength beyond human abilities. Grace brought God to bear in every circumstances of your life. Grace never depended on gold. Even without gold (money), grace granted enough space unto a man. The man unto whom God grants grace was a wonder among men. People would not be able to trace his source they would not be able to marry his overwhelming results with his little inputs because grace had a multiplying power. When men depended much on tangible things to help them, those who relied totally on grace just soared beyond human calculations, they became men whom others envied. Men unto whom grace was released excelled miraculously beyond what money could achieve, because they were borne on the supernatural wings of grace that didnt need cash before it got results. Their solutions didnt come as a result of long legs or human helps or one helper somewhere locating them (as ignorant men pray today), they were products of divine grace. God made way for them where there was no way - even in the wilderness grace lifted them beyond human abilities. Those whom God loves, He grants them grace inexplicable, overwhelming grace, grace greater than sins, satan, troubles and struggles. Those who have grace dont struggle, they just rely on, and trust in God, and grace takes over, bearing them on its wide, strong and unfailing wings.
Several men in church today have a terrible poverty of understanding of divine things to the extent that when you see them praying for physical “things” so much, and you to open their eyes by asking them to pray that grace may attend them, theyll look at you as if youre too spiritual. These are men who are shortsighted, they dont know that Gods grace is overwhelmingly great, surpassing all that money and human help may supply. Rich men actually dont spend money, they spend grace. Money is good, but money is limited...
