...Weekly insights into scriptures by Olumide AyodeleDO YOU KNOW HIM?
Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against Him, how they might destroy Him. But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew Himself from thence: and great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. And charged them that they should not make Him known: [Matthew 12:14-16]
The Bible reveals in verse 16 that Jesus charged and commanded the multitudes that followed Him that they should not make Him known. The question that arises immediately in our hearts is that: “Didnt these people know Jesus before?”, “Why would Jesus tell them not to make Him known when they already knew Him?”
From verses 10 and 14 of this Matthew 12, the Pharisees already knew Jesus. They knew what He was capable of doing. They knew His physique, His stature, physical appearance, height, colour and background. They even knew His message. They recognized His voice. In fact, they knew perfectly that He was going to heal on the Sabbath day (vs.10). They knew everything there was to know about Jesus… BUT, THEY DID NOT KNOW HIM…
THE PHARISEES KNEW MUCH “ABOUT JESUS”, BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW HIM… Knowing about a man is completely different from Knowing Him experientially.
verse 15: “…great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all”.
When Jesus healed the people, He did more than just a physical, bodily healing, “…He healed them all”. It is interesting that the Bible says, “He healed them all” and NOT “He healed all of them”. “He healed them – ALL”. This healing was not particularly referring to the number of people that were healed, rather, it was referring to the depth and the scope of the healing works in the lives of every individual who partook of it. In other words, He healed them ALL. He healed them COMPLETELY. He healed them TOTALLY. He healed them SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY… “ALL” Jesus did more than just physical healing, or the healing of the body, or the healing of sicknesses and infirmity, He went further and deeper by healing their Spirits and souls – He healed them ALL – He healed them spiritually by revealing Himself unto them.
The multitudes that followed Jesus from verse 15 received their physical healing quite alright, but because of their inner passion, quest and desire for God which others didnt possess, beyond physical healing, they received something much more deeper in addition – something deeper and richer in God. These multitudes were not satisfied with only what they had received or witnessed in the synagogue (or church), they desired some extra depths – something deeper. Hence, they forsook time, family, friends and their plans in order to follow Jesus wherever He was going. They were not like the Pharisees and all those others, who left the synagogue looking for something bad to hold against Jesus. They were not just ordinary church-goers, who went away to carry out some other “more pressing” issues than following Jesus. They were different from those nominal believers who were satisfied with ordinary synagogue experience without an experiential revelation of Jesus and a closer walk with Him.
These multitudes who followed Jesus, received more than just physical healing, but divine, supernatural, spiritual healing in addition. They got some deeper revelations in their spirits. Jesus healed their bodies and went further to heal their spirit man, and revealed Himself unto them. NO WONDER!!! No wonder Jesus charged them that they should NOT MAKE HIM KNOWN… The revelation of Christ that they had got was too precious, they couldnt just share it with every Tom, Dick and Harry lest they reduce it to nothing.
There are many who know about the Lord, but do NOT know Him actually: They have No revelation knowledge of God because the Lord has not revealed Himself unto them. They possess no hunger for God in their souls. They are still in the camp of the Pharisees, or those who at best put Christ in the 2nd place in their lives. The question is, “DO I KNOW GOD???”
…And charged them that they should not make Him known…
Jesus charged them that they should not make Him known. He charged them that they should not trivialize the Divine experience and revelation they got to the extent of waggling their mouths everywhere on it. They should not cast their pearls before the swine. They should keep sacred the visitations of God, and keep deep things in the deep place and not be talkative about it.
The charge of Jesus Christ to me today, is for me to be sober and guide divine visitations jealously. There should be not a leakage or porous point in me to leak grace away.
God never reveals Himself in a deeper way to those who are not thirsty, or who do not make Him the ultimate in their lives, RATHER, He withdraws…
