And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow. [Matthew 13:3]
“...He spake many things…”
There is a depth in Christ that no one can fathom or fully discover, it is so deep, it is full of treasures. To actually be like Christ, I must also be like Him in depth. I must be conformed to His image. I must be deep because He is deep and full of Wisdom.
Jesus does not hide things from those who truly seek Him, He spake... He didn't begin to speak until the multitudes were gathered/come unto Him (verses 1-2). To receive insights and revelations, I must come and abide at the feet of Jesus, I must strip myself of all I know or what I am, and with the heart of a seeker, a teachable heart, learn of Him.
Jesus speaks many things... All that is needed for life, grace and ministry is present in the Lord's mouth. Allow Him to speak many things. Don't be tired of listening to Him because a hasty comer and goer will put Him off, and will receive nothing from Him.
“...and He spake…”
I have often searched and searched and eventually discovered that those whom the Lord wants to impart with something great, the Lord actually spends time to SPEAK unto them. If a man is going to amount to anything in the sight of God, if a man is going to be used of God, then, God Himself must take out time with such a man and SPEAK unto him.
My growth in the hands of the Lord is directly proportional to the much I have heard Him SPEAK unto me, and of course, to the much of those things I RETAIN.
If the Lord was going to pick any man up from the dunghill, the first thing He does, is to speak unto him. If God was to continue His divine work in such life by setting him apart unto Himself, and transform him, sanctify him, what He does is also to speak further unto him. If God was to go ahead and use him mightily and powerfully as well, the same method was also employed—God will speak unto him. The WORD of God is God’s divine instrument for pruning, for purging, for transformation, for impartation, for anointing and for power. It is the same word He uses to cut His servants down to size, to correct them, to instruct them and to lead them.
When the Lord spake to the Prophets of old, the Bible will relentlessly say, “...the word of the Lord came unto them…”. All the Prophets of old that were mightily used of God, their greatness was simply occasioned by the WORD of the Lord that came unto them.
After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. (Genesis 15:1)
Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying, (1 Samuel 15:10)
And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the Lord unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. (1 Kings 13:1)
And the word of the Lord came to Elijahthe Tishbite, saying, (1 kings 21:17)
The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar. and the hand of the Lord was there upon him. (Ezekiel 1:3)
The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. (Hosea 1:1)
“… Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. (2Kings 3:11-12)
In contrast, if there was chaos in the land or the land was barren, if iniquity prevailed and the heavens were sealed, it was because the word of the Lord either ceased, was scarce or God simply refused to speak:
“...And the word of the Lord was precious in those days, there was no open vision (1 Samuel 3:1)
Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him. (1 Samuel 3:7)
If the Lord didn't speak unto you as His mouthpiece, then you’ve got nothing to impart unto the people. If a prophet was great, it was clearly because of the intense volume of God’s word that God had spoken unto him. The distinguishing factor between the greatest men of God and any other man on the street, is simply this same expression, “...and He spake unto them…”.
I must never undermine God’s word, I must never begin to underestimate God’s word, or think I can survive without a word from Him—and that, continually on a daily basis. If His word is life and health, then, I am a dead man if I have none of His words. I must invest time to be with God to hear Him speak unto me.
Time is an essential factor in hearing from God. Zechariah Tanee Fomum once explained that if God has a 2 hour message to speak to me, and I only spend 1 hour with Him in secret duties, God may not wish to break His word into pieces for me to receive in piecemeal of one hour twice, He will rather wait until I have committed 2 hours or more into His presence before He could reveal such revelation. Woe betides me therefore, if I’m not discerning enough to apportion enough time with God after He had beckoned on me to take the time out with Him for the special message. Such divine revelation from God will be delayed, and I may eventually lose it.
How much of my time do I spend in the bosom of Jesus, just to hear Him speak? Many people spend a lot of time to pray, but their prayer involves only speaking to God, without waiting in the same place of prayer and meditation on the word to hear from Him. We are quick to inform God about all our numerous desires and passions, but we never wait on Him to tell us His own desires and will. Those who go far with God actually, are not those who know how to present their requests to Him, but those who have learnt to hear God's voice clearly and are content with God's will alone, while they have completely crucified theirs. Many other people have never even disciplined themselves to the point whereby they can recognize God's voice, so even if God speaks, they never hear, since God's voice is strange and unexpected.
Is the word of God dwelling in my tabernacles?
