What does it mean to be swift to hear? Other versions say "willing to listen...", "Quick to listen". It means to be very attentive. Of course, we are talking about the real man, the man within. Hence, we are not referring to just the physical ears visible by the sides of the head. It speaks deeper than that. The word of the Lord is talking about my inner man, my spiritual ears.

The ears of my spirit must be very alert, not cumbered with the noise of the world. The most silent voice of the spirit must be very loudest in my ears. Your shining appearance cannot pervert His verdict. Your seemingly godly outfit is not the criteria for judging holiness. God is not deceived by your smiling face, He will not be cajoled by your numerous extremisms and activities. Once your heart is wrong, every other external conformity is a deformity, a mere cover-up. The heart of a man is the focus of God, and that is the central focal point that determines every other issue about him. Friend, God knows your heart.

There is only one message to preach in preparing the way of The Lord: This is the message of repentance. The coming Lord is not going to plant His seeds on hardened soils, His efforts will result in futility because it is clear that nothing will penetrate the ground. If the hearts of men are not first broken up, whatever Jesus wants to sow into their lives will be a waste, and the only thing that breaks the hearts of men is the message of repentance. Jesus is not asking men to continue in their normal ways, and that such is how He will add to them blessings, no. There must be a change of heart, and a definite turn around.

At the Jordan river, where multitudes came out to be baptized of John, Jesus also was baptised just like every other person, but one thing was different about Him - His heaven opened. Why?
